Power of Words
When Jarasandh saw Shri krishna at Draupadi’s swayamvar event he started saying bad words and accusing him. King Drupad intervened and asked him to mind his words. At that time Shri krishna calmly replied that bad or good words did not bother him. Life is so small to feel bad or angry by someone's words. When I saw this scene today in a web series, I could not agree with Shri krishna more. But in reality, is it really possible? What Shri krishna says is the solution for our happiness and bliss. But till the time we gain that understanding words remain the most powerful weapon which keep on creating, maintaining, hurting and breaking relations.

Words are the most precise medium available to convey our thoughts and feelings. What we say is generally taken as it is. Words are considered to be reflection of our inner process. We are generally judged in this world by our words. We connect with people through words. One who has mastery over verbal communication can effectively and easily build relations. Words help to build and nourish relations- personal and professional both. One who uses words-carefully and lovingly will always have people around and would never be alone. In contrast ,one who is always abusive and rude will be alone and avoided by people. No body wishes to hear and feel negativity in life. People look forward for love and compassion. Even at workplace smooth communication is the key to effective work and also to getting work done. People respond when we are mindful. Words have an amazing healing, motivating and soothing power. We can create positivity and uplift someone's spirit through use of effective words. When used with empathy words can create magic.
Unfortunately, words are like double edged sword. Some words can heal, while some can hurt too. For instance, sometimes we are in midst of some tricky situation or not in a positive mood. If in that case we have to answer to some communication there is possibility of wrong words being used. They can really hurt the listener who may not be in a position to understand our situation. Words can be forgiven but forgetting is not everyone’s cup of tea. With technology advancement and upsurge of social networking and instant chat available, conversations have become so frequent and at times casual too. In this scenario, words become even more important. When everything is instant if we are not really careful with selection of words, we may end up hurting or irritating someone unintentionally.
We need to slow down, pause and think before we write, speak or express anything. Even when we are angry with justified set of reasons (as per our understanding) we need to consider the fact that words create vibrations which translate into reality. Words can create, alter, enhance or deplete the energy around us. So, if we speak ill words in rage just to vent out, they are sure to create disturbances for us too. In Hindu philosophy so much importance is accorded to mantras shlokas ,hymns, bhajans because the power of words is accepted.
While we need to be careful when expressing, we need to be equally considerate while listening or receiving communication. If there is some miscommunication, we need to discount the fact that it may have be done inadvertently. Also, if done by our near and dear ones we need to understand the intention. Relations are critical and sensitive. Few years back I had a verbal argument with my cousin. We both got hurt and stopped talking to each other. It became a series of reactions. People connected to us were disturbed. After sometime the subject matter of argument remained no more relevant. I realised it was much more painful to remain angry and severing the ties. Once I chose to forget the incident without judging I was in a good healthy space. I could initiate and rebuild communication. It’s indeed easy to break but difficult to maintain healthy relations. We need to practice empathy and forgiveness. In case of outsider we need to try to ignore and forget to preserve our peace of mind. We can always take a lesson and move forward.
As Lord Krishna says life is too short to love. Then why to waste moments feeling bad or hurt. Let us always try to be cordial, warm in dealings with all. Let us keep our intentions pure, words positive and actions sublime to create a positive and healthy environment.
