One month had gone and there was no indication of decrease in reading of high sugar level. Medicines just stabilised the levels. Being diagnosed with Diabetes at early forties was alarming. It was then my friend who was a foodie and who avoided regular exercise regime decided to do something concrete. He chalked out a diet plan and exercise schedule and followed it rigorously without fail. Be it professional or personal work, he kept aside all and focused on health first. And within two months his health improved. Weight reduced, dosage of medicine reduced and he was feeling much fresh and fit. Healthy lifestyle has become an integral part of his life now. Without good health no amount of work, success or money is enjoyable. And it is only when we decide we can do something to be healthy.

Friends what is important is TO DECIDE.

I read story of Dr Sharada Bapat and it is really inspiring. She had a BA and a Law degree and was a hugely successful entrepreneur dealing in electronic safety devices, when her mother’s prolonged illness motivated her to consider becoming a doctor. Married, and mother to a 12-year-old son, Dr Sharda Bapat fought several bureaucratic hurdles to become a doctor at 42. She learnt to fly an airplane also while pursuing education in medicine in foreign land.

In Hindu mythology I love the story of Eklavya. Being refused training for not being Kuru Prince he din’t get disheartened. Instead he made an idol of his admired Guru and worshipped the idol and pursued self study. His perseverance made him one of the finest archers. He didn’t let anyone else decision ruin his passion in life.

An IIT graduate having fat pay job always had the feeling of not enjoying what he was doing. He had no time for his individual interest. One fine day he decided that he would shape his life as per his wish. He quit his existing job, took up part time professional assignment just to satisfy his minimal requirements in life and take care of his parents. Today he enjoys his day playing music, reading and pursuing activities which make him happy. He has not married as he doesn’t want to lose his decision-making flexibility and don’t want someone else to compromise or adjust for his choices in life. He has adopted a minimalist approach. He has taken up responsibility for happiness and for his lifestyle. In another case an entrepreneur friend who multitasks throughout the year has decided to take a month off every year to be with family ,friends and enjoy some ME time. This time is being used for self introspection and enhancing life skills.

Friends we can achieve whatever we really want. Whenever any work requires team effort, all people may not be equally proactive. But then there are certain members who decide that they would go overboard and achieve the results, come what may. They don’t care or pay heed to reluctance of laid-back members. They are focussed and motivated. This is a very common phenomenon we observe at workplaces, in sports, in community activities etc.

People like Narayan Murthy,Indra Nooyi, players like Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli, political leaders like Smriti Irani are examples of contributors to bigger purpose through their vision and sheer effort.

We can achieve happiness and success in life only when we transform ourselves from being helpless, victims, vulnerable to go-getters, achievers and Creators.

The nature of goals may be different -Spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, professional. But every goal needs us to be focussed and positively motivated. We need to remove negativity surrounding our mind and body in the form of insecurities, fear of being unsuccessful, inhibitions and complexes..People who criticise us for our choices ,for our decisions have no connection with our mind and soul. Its an individual choice and we need to listen to our inner voice. We need to equip ourselves and be ready to adapt to necessary changes with open mind.We need to shape our future.

What we want and what make us happy is what we have to DECIDE. Our firm decision is half the battle won. Our thought process and actions get automatically conditioned once we have decided anything firmly.

It is very easy to complain about circumstances, behaviour of people around us, obstacles in life. What is difficult is to ignore them and decide to move ahead positively. Our attitude in life is all that makes a difference. When we decide not to succumb to circumstances around us and change the situation in our favour, we become the CREATORS. We are the creators of our own destiny. There are thousands of reasons for not doing or achieving something but only one focus and one killer instinct to get what we want in life.

“Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved”-Unknown
